Episode 7 | Marvelous Marcellus | West Virginia Independent Oil & Gas Association (IOGA)

For my first Oil/Gas episode, I met with Charlie Burd, Executive Director of the West Virginia Independent Oil and Gas Association (IOGA).

IOGA was holding their winter meeting, and I arranged to talk to them since I was attending the conference for work. We met in the ballroom of the Charleston Marriott while it was still quiet before their second day of activities.

"Independent" producers are those who are not vertically-integrated (i.e. Chevron, Exxon-Mobil, Shell). During my discussion with Charlie, we discussed the price challenges natural gas producers face in the northeast Marcellus Shale Play, opportunities to being located near most of the nation's population, and possibilities the new administration might provide.

During my monologue, I mention a bass tournament I sponsored when I was starting out in the Oil/Gas sector in 2011. This was Louisiana, folks were in no mood for a lecture, and I was taken to school about how to handle myself in the oilpatch!
