Episode 9 | Perry Policy | Jeff Merrifield

While attending a Communicator's event in Charlotte, hosted by E4 Carolinas, I was introduced to Jeff Merrifield, partner at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, a Washington DC-based law firm.

Jeff's presentation focused on what a Trump/Perry energy policy might look like. Energy Secretary Rick Perry, former governor of Texas, had been confirmed about a week prior. In a highly-partisan move, Sec. Perry's confirmation took longer than any previous Dept. of Energy head since George H.W. Bush.

During the interview, we also discussed the responsibilities of the role, some bright spots amid a toxic political environment, and the possibility for action on carbon during the Trump presidency. I also asked Jeff to tell us more about his time at the NRC, where he served as a Commissioner from 1998-2007.

Also in this episode, I take a closer look at what Perry's policies might be, based on his 3.5-hour confirmation hearing. Thankfully for you, I listened to the whole thing and condensed it down!
